What defines a prismatic loupe
A prismatic loupe uses internal Schmidt or roof prisms to fold the optical path inside the barrel. That lets the barrel sit shorter and the eye stay closer to the optical axis, which in turn enables higher magnification, a flatter image at the edges, and posture-friendly head-up viewing geometry that Galilean designs struggle to match above about 3.5x. The tradeoff is weight and complexity — prismatic loupes are usually heavier than equivalent Galilean systems and cost more to build.
